Do you know our Eliot Ness?
The provoking question is the initial verse of the tune “Brazilian Eliot”, new collaboration between two well-known names regarding jamaican riddims in São Paulo: The band Rockers Control and singer/songwriter Maxado ( ex-Firebug’s lead singer). On a sharp rock steady version, they mix the north american agent’s history ( capturing Al Capone and then falling on the bad side of the public view) with news and characters from current Brazil.

The tune brings the talent of respected musicians such as Curumin on the background vocals, Italian Mr. T-Bone on the trombone and Victor Rice on the mixing board. The highly skilled team really excel on the hypnotic version, on the subltle irony of the timbers, on the beat that both invites you to dance but also to protest.

Você conhece o nosso Eliot Ness?” A pergunta-provocação é o verso inicial da música “Eliot Brasileiro”, nova parceria de dois nomes tradicionais dos ritmos jamaicanos em São Paulo: A banda Rockers Control e o cantor e compositor Maxado (ex-vocalista do Firebug). Na língua afiada do rock steady, eles misturam a história do agente norte-americano (que capturou Al Capone e depois caiu em desgraça na opinião pública) com as notícias e personagens do Brasil atual.

A faixa traz o talento de músicos consagrados como Curumin (nos backing vocals), o italiano Mr. T-Bone (no trombone) e Victor Rice (na mixagem). A tarimba do time se mostra na sonoridade hipnótica do arranjo, na ironia sutil dos timbres, na levada que convida tanto à dança como ao protesto. Qualquer semelhança com os cadernos de política…
